BBNJ Symposium 2025

Following the first Symposium in October 2023 (Edinburgh, UK), the second BBNJ Symposium will take place from 18-19 February 2025 in Singapore! Since the BBNJ Agreement opened for signature in September 2023, the early implementation of the Agreement has been a goal of the international community. In order to do this, the Symposium will incorporate viewpoints from the Asia-Pacific area and concentrate on matters related to the ratification and execution of the Agreement. It will involve a diverse set of panelists from different sectors, including government, civil society and the research community. There will also be discussions on the forthcoming work of the BBNJ Preparatory Commission.

MARBLES (also BlueRemediomics) partners Marcel Jaspars (University of Aberdeen) and Thomas Vanagt (3BIO formerly ABSint) are organising a satellite workshop event in collaboration with Fran Humphries (Griffith University) at the Symposium. The workshop will focus on “Article 12 in Action: Science-Policy brainstorm on effective implementation of notification requirements” and is taking place on 20 February, 09:00–12:00 local time.
