Postdoc position at WUR: Co-cultivation of sponge cells and bacterial symbionts
MARBLES partner Wageningen University & Research (WUR) Laboratory of Microbiology is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher (3 years, full-time employment) as part of the European Union-funded research project COMBO. COMBO's primary goal is to create novel culturing systems based on the holobiont concept for the synthesis of high-value bioactives derived from seaweed and sponges. Utilising bioactive compounds from sponges is hindered primarily by the challenging process of cultivating sponge cells and their bacterial symbionts in vitro. Therefore, the main objective of this postdoctoral position is to develop next-generation cultivation strategies that use ecological knowledge to enhance the growth of symbiotic bacteria and sponge cells in vitro, such as co-cultivation in custom-built setups.
Deadline for applications: 20 November 2023.
