Call for co-chair of GOOS Expert Panel on Biology & Ecosystems
The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) is a program of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO), working to coordinate an integrated and responsive ocean observing system. The Expert Panel on Biology and Ecosystems (the BioEco Panel) provides scientific advice and expertise to GOOS on sustained ocean observations focused on establishing the current and future state of marine life. The work of the BioEco Panel in coordinating a robust, global observing system for ocean biology and ecosystems is centred around a set of Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) that cover marine taxa and habitat groups, and are designed to inform policy and management.
The BioEco Panel is governed by an Executive that oversees and guides the development and regular evaluation of the Panel’s work. The Panel Executive consists of two co-chairs and the International Project Officer, and works closely with the GOOS Executive, steering committee and other GOOS components to progress the objectives of the GOOS 2030 Strategy, including identifying funding options and opportunities that may support the Panel’s activities.
The BioEco Panel is now seeking a new co-chair to help progress and contribute to GOOS 2030 Strategy and goals of the Panel roadmap.
Deadline for applications: 29 November 2024.
